The Story
Some stories do not end when you escape them.
Fatinah thought she had left the fog—and the god who once claimed her life—far behind. But when rumors of a ghost ship reach her island, she knows something has followed her home.
Beneath the quiet drift of fog, an old hunger stirs. Ships vanish. Voices fade. And the past refuses to stay buried.
To confront it, Fatinah must return to the place that changed everything—and face the choice that once cost her so much. But this is not the same woman who made that bargain.
And this time, she will not ask to be saved.
A mythic fairy tale of grief, survival, and defiance—and the conclusion of Fatinah’s journey through the world of Tessagonia.
Completes the story arc begun in Venom and Shadow and continued in Mirror.
The Spark Behind the Story
Fatinah and the Ghost Ship was my first true sequel, which made it one of the more difficult Tales of Tessagonia to write. I wanted to give returning readers a meaningful conclusion to Fatinah’s journey while providing enough context for someone encountering her story for the first time. The challenge was honoring everything she had survived without allowing the earlier tales to overwhelm the new one.
Like several of my later stories, this one is not a direct retelling. It draws instead upon the imagery of ghost-ship legends such as The Flying Dutchman. Before I knew the plot, I had a collection of unsettling images: a ship emerging from the fog, chains dragging across the deck, stolen cargo arriving on distant shores, and travelers holding their breath because the dead could smell the living.
Those fragments eventually became a story about more than confronting a ghost ship. They gave Fatinah the opportunity to face what still followed her and decide what it truly means to bring a painful story to an end.
What Readers Are Saying
A great new entry in the Tessagonia series that has a lot of rewarding details for those who have read the other books.… Jensen does a great job of making it an accessible and enjoyable story to new readers.

This one is definitely a favorite so far! I really enjoyed this introspective journey, and especially for a novella, I felt the exploration of Fatinah’s grief was astute and sharp.
